Instead: They all decide to keep pestering her with extra favors and not even give her a chance to eat, let alone think her decision over. You'd Expect: The rest of the Mane Six to give Twilight some time to make her decision and let eat her lunch since she can't decide on an empty stomach. She decides to think it over while grabbing a bite to eat. The rest of the then-new Elements of Harmony hear about this and soon Twilight is caught in a dilemma.

She decides to keep one and give the other to somepony else since Spike doesn't want it. Princess Celestia gives Twilight two tickets to the Grand Galloping Gala.Things ended up working out, but it was a very close call on Celestia's part due to Twilight's anxiety. It also means that when Nightmare Moon arrives and Celestia vanishes, Twilight only has one book in her library that provides the answer about the Elements of Harmony, and the other ponies have to put faith in it to stop the eternal night. Twilight as a result is polite but not enjoying completely her interactions with the Ponyville ponies because she's worried about Nightmare Moon's return. Instead: Already thinking that Twilight's attitude towards friendship will not make it authentic enough for the Elements of Harmony to work if she was told about Nightmare Moon, Celestia plays Obfuscating Stupidity, dismisses Twilight's claims as she thinks ('You simply must stop reading those dusty old books!' and sends her to Ponyville on the excuse that she's cooped herself in reading and needs to socialize.

Twilight would be free to socialize naturally and enjoy herself, giving her a much easier time making the friends she needs without seeing said friends as a means to an end.

Or: That Celestia would reassure Twilight that she would properly deal with the matter (which she technically would be by sending Twilight to make friends who would bear the Elements of Harmony). While Twilight may have gone into Measuring the Marigolds about friendship, she would have been more willing to enjoy the hospitality given to her in Ponyville, such as Applejack giving her lunch, Rarity insisting on a makeover, and Pinkie Pie throwing a welcome party. You'd Expect: That Celestia would tell Twilight she believes her and provides the solution: that you need friends to brave Nightmare Moon's reign of terror. Celestia as it turns out already has the solution on hand and decides to send Twilight to Ponyville to implement it. She orders Spike, her assistant, to send a warning letter to Princess Celestia.

Twilight finds evidence in her books that Nightmare Moon will return, and that the Elements of Harmony can defeat her.
